Live like Alisa

After Marcus' cousin Alisa and her unborn baby Ellis passed away, her family came up with the idea to host a #livelikealisa event.  The goal was for everyone to do a random act of kindness on Alisa's birthday in honor of her and the wonderful person she is.  

We decided to pick something that Chase could help with, so we made cookies and delivered them to a few neighbors.  

Chase was a super helper both making the cookies and then delivering them.  I hope we keep up this tradition in future years.

Marcus' Service Project

One of Marcus' assignments at church is being the Director of Public Affairs.  I know my understanding of what all that entails is limited, but I think he's doing a FANTASTIC job.  There is an organization out here called Greening Western Queens that focuses on helping clean and beautify the neighborhoods out here.  Marcus has been working with them closely to organize a service project as part of Mormon Helping Hands.  Last weekend was the big project, and there were a great turn out!  Marcus was really happy with the results, and Greening Western Queens was thrilled!

The actual project was tree care.  The volunteers helped plant perennials to keep the trees healthy.

And all ages came to help.  This is our little friend, Jesh.  He apparently was quite a great helper.

They had to divide up the tree beds into different sections to plant specific things.  I'm not exactly sure what's what because I didn't get to help much.  I had Chase, so we just walked around making sure everyone else was working hard :)

While everyone worked, here was Chase, obviously helping a ton... not :)  Please excuse this minor interruption while I include a few pictures of our cute wild man with his first, um, service opportunity.
